Brief Bio:
I am from Sacramento, California and went to college at Virginia Military Institute, where I ran track and cross country. I began running ultramarathons in 1995, with the Last Chance 50 miler in Sacramento. I have continued to run ultras and have run 85 of them to date. In 1997 I ran 90 miles on the Appalachian Trail, which is the longest distance on the AT covered in a single day. In 1998 I did the Grand Slam of ultrarunning—by running the four oldest 100 milers (Old Dominion in Virginia, Western States in California, Wasatch in Utah, and Leadville in Colorado) in a 14 week period. Further, I am the youngest American to complete the Grand Slam. The next year I finished in the top 25 at Hardrock 100 in Colorado in 37 hours and 50 minutes without course knowledge and acclimatization. Lastly, I ran Western States 100 in 2002 in 22 hours and 55 minutes, fast enough to receive a coveted silver buckle.
